At least 32 Pakistanis have died from drinking a bad batch of alcohol

At least 32 Pakistanis mostly Christian men, have died after drinking a bad batch of alcohol.

At least thirty-two people, said to be mostly Christians, have been confirmed dead and dozens more sick after the consumption of a toxic liquor, on Christmas Eve in central Pakistan. However five Muslims were also among the dead after drinking toxic alcohol over the Christmas weekend in the Punjab region of Pakistan.

A police officer reported that the two Muslim men who allegedly arranged for the alcohol at Christmas eve was among the dead, complicating police efforts to trace where the toxic beverage came from.

Though legal breweries exist in Pakistan, alcohol sales and consumption are prohibited for Muslims and tightly regulated for minorities and foreigners.

While wealthy Pakistanis buy bootlegged foreign alcohol at heavily inflated prices, the poor often resort to home-brews that can contain methanol, commonly used in anti-freeze and fuel.

There have been several cases in Pakistan mostly the Punjab province of people consuming toxic liquor at a party or during festive seasons like Eid public holidays or Christian holidays. This is the latest case of deadly alcohol poisoning in the conservative Muslim country Pakistan a country in southern Asia. Pakistan is next to India, Iran, Afghanistan, and China. It is officially called the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It has a long coastline along the Arabian Sea in the south. Pakistan has the sixth largest population in the world. The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad.
