Carrie Fisher: Star Wars actress suffers heart attack

Carrie Fisher, the lady who played Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, is in intensive care after suffering a heart attack during a flight.

Carrie Fisher aged 60, went into cardiac arrest before the end of the London to LA flight, about 15 minutes before the plane landed in LA. Several passengers in the airplane tried to revive her with CPR. The plane landed after midday local time (20:00 GMT) and she was taken to hospital when it landed.

Her brother Todd said she was in intensive care in Los Angeles. “If everyone could just pray for her that would be good,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “The doctors are doing their thing and we don’t want to bug them. We are waiting by patiently.”

United Airlines issued a statement saying that Flight 935 from London to Los Angeles was met on the ground by medical personnel after the crew reported that a passenger was “unresponsive”, but did not name the passenger, Reuters reported.

The LA Fire department said its paramedics met the plane and “provided advanced life support and aggressively treated and transported the patient to a local hospital”. A law enforcement official told NBC that her condition was “not good”.

Carrie Fisher is an American actress, writer and novelist. She is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy (1977–83) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). Carrie Fisher is also known for her semi-autobiographical novels, including Postcards from the Edge, and the screenplay for the film of the same name, as well as her autobiographical one-woman play, and its nonfiction book, Wishful Drinking, based on the show. Her other film roles include Shampoo (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), The ‘Burbs (1989), and When Harry Met Sally… (1989).
