Bob Beckel will return to Fox News Channel as co-host of “The Five.”

Former Democratic strategist Bob Beckel is returning to Fox News Channel (FNC) as co-host of “The Five.”

It has been announced that Bob Beckel would return to Fox News as a co-host of The Five. Beckel, who served as Walter Mondale’s 1984 presidential campaign manager, will begin his duties on the popular roundtable opinion program, Monday tonight at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Bob Beckel will reunite with co-hosts Eric Bolling, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Greg Gutfeld and Dana Perino. The current co-host Juan Williams will remain a contributor across all programs and continue to appear on “The Five.” according to the network Williams is also a columnist for The Hill.

“Bob was missed by many fans of ‘The Five’ and we’re happy to welcome him back to the show,” said Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox and Executive Chairman of FOX News.

Beckel, who also has the distinction of serving as the youngest deputy assistant secretary of State for the Carter administration, said he’s happy to be rejoining his “television family.”

Beckel says he’s “thrilled” to be back: “I’m thrilled for the opportunity to go home again and join my television family around the table of ‘The Five’. I have no doubt it will be a vigorous yet entertaining debate.” he said.

“The Five” has been one of the most watched programs on cable television since its inception in 2011, claiming the number one spot in cable news during its 5 p.m. ET timeslot for 66 consecutive months.

Beckel was one of the originating co-hosts of “The Five,” along with Eric Bolling, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Greg Gutfeld and Dana Perino when the show launched in 2011. He is currently an analyst and commentator on Fox News Channel.

He had been a commentator on the Fox News Channel, where he co-hosted The Five until he was released and parted ways with the network in July of 2015, after being absent for several months, with Fox stating they could no longer be held “hostage to one man’s personal issues.”

It was reported then that Beckel was in rehab for an addiction to painkillers following back surgery. After departing Fox News in 2015, Beckel became a commentator for CNN. And today the 16th of January 2017, Fox News has announced that Beckel would return as a co-host of The Five.

The 68-year-old stated on the air in July of 2011 when “The Five” first launched that he’s had substance abuse problems in the past.

“I’m a recovering addict and cocaine was my drug of choice,” he said.

Beckel first joined FOX News in 2000 as a contributor providing political analysis. He later rejoined the network in 2011 as one of the originating co-hosts of “The Five” until 2015 and then briefly joined CNN as a commentator. He was also a columnist for USA Today.

“Bob was missed by many fans of ‘The Five’ and we’re happy to welcome him back to the show,” said Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox and Executive Chairman of FOX News.

Beckel says he’s “thrilled” to be back.
