Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote says he will buy Arsenal Football Club

Aliko Dangote GCON (born 10 April 1957) a Nigerian billionaire and Africa’s richest man, owner of the Dangote Group, which has interests in commodities with an estimated net worth of US$14.9 billion.

Dangote has not given up on Arsenal yet he says in three to four years he intends to buy Arsenal. He has spoken of his interest to take over Arsenal on a number of occasions.  Dangote says his plan to buy popular English football club, Arsenal, was borne out of his desire to fly Nigerian flag in England all year round.

Dangote’s company operates in Nigeria and other African countries, including Benin, Ethiopia, Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, and Zambia. As of June 2016.

Recently at an interview with Bloomberg, Dangote insisted that there’s no doubt that he would purchase Arsenal within the next three to four years.

‘Maybe three to four years,’ he said.

He spoke of why he cannot purchase Arsenal now: “The issue is that we have more challenging headwinds. I need to get those out the way first and start having tailwinds. Then I’ll focus on this.”Dangote told Bloomberg.

“It’s not about buying Arsenal and just continuing with business as usual.”

‘It’s about buying Arsenal and turning it around. I have run a very successful business and I think I can also run a very successful team.

‘Right now, with what we’re facing, over £15billion of projects, I cannot do both.’

Although Dangote once made an attempt six years ago to buy shares in Arsenal. The richest man in Africa tried to take over the 15 per cent owned by Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith, but instead she sold her stake (shares) to Stan Kroenke the current largest shareholder in Arsenal Football Club.
